Summer of eResearch 2011 student applications now open!

NZ eScience Infrastructure

The Summer of eResearch student application process is now underway! The New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (NeSI) in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Innovation and leading New Zealand universities are offering students in Computer Science and Software Engineering programmes the chance to work with computational scientists on a diverse range of projects around New Zealand.

This is the second year we are offering the $5,000 scholarships to outstanding students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. Last summer, we put students together with mentors in both computing and research domains such as bioinformatics, computational chemistry, geoscience and conservation. We also had students working on projects that could benefit all researchers, enabling access to large data sets and collaborative platforms. See the results of our 2010 - 2011 programme!

This year, we are again looking to get students developing computational tools and services to support New Zealand research. Have a look at our list of proposals! Over the coming weeks, we will select some of these projects and put students into teams where they will work together to implement the project goals. They will be supported by the experts behind the science and NeSI in an intensive ten week programme from late November through to the end of February.

All students who have demonstrated strong academic ability are encouraged to apply. However we are most interested in students who would like further opportunities to develop the tools and services that underlie computational research in New Zealand. In most cases, students will work on pilot projects, some of which will receive further development funding to produce more mature and productive services.

If you would like to be a part of our programme this summer, learn more and apply!
